Also known as Burlington Cemetery.
Around the turn of the 19th century, the Maccabee Lodge organized the Burlington cemetery. Later, the Ladies of the Maccabees took over management.
The Burlington Cemetery Association incorporated in 1924 and continued caring for and maintaining the cemetery. The city acquired the cemetery at the request of the Burlington Cemetery Association board. The association desired that the city assume responsibility for the care, development, maintenance, and operation of the cemetery, which contains approximately 15 acres.
The transfer to the city was made August 14, 1954.
Burlington's Greenhills Memorial Cemetery is one of the city's most historic sites.
The city and the Burlington Parks & Recreation staff who maintain the grounds are mindful of their responsibility to care for and maintain the cemetery in a manner that will bring beauty, dignity, and comfort to all who visit.
There is a record of burials and tombstone readings from 1900 to 1993 at Burlington Public Library.
