History

This is an active private cemetery. According to Find A Grave, the earliest recorded death date is in 1900 for John Eddon, who is buried on the property he received a land patent for in January 1900. He passed away in August of the same year. The cemetery was officially established in 1922 by Mr. Ray Evans, who later deeded it to Charles Louis Pierce upon his death.

Mr. Pierce of Kettle Falls, Washington, noted that the cemetery was in a rundown state for several years, but efforts were underway to restore it as soon as possible. This situation is challenging due to the lack of funds to support the cemetery. During my visit, I found it to be in reasonably good shape, though, like many cemeteries, some markers are very worn. One mausoleum was challenging to read, but I could peek through the bars.

Donna Godes, a niece of Charles Pierce, currently owns Forest Home Cemetery. Godes took over the cemetery after the death of her uncle, Charles Pierce, who had been the caretaker since the 1970s. He passed away in August 2006 after falling on crumbling steps at the Spokane Raceway Park. She wrote to me in 2015. She mentioned that a neighbor moved the fence back by 5 feet about a year ago. The cemetery was dedicated in 1912, but its perimeter was not officially recorded until recently.
