History

M. M. and Wilda J. Foote were the previous owners of this property, dissolving their ownership on September 11, 1903. From that two cemeteries merged, the IOOF Cemetery and the Masonic Cemetery. Burials began in the all of 1902, though lots were not available for sale until 1903. In 1954, the ownership was handed over to the Chelan Cemetery Association. The merging of these two cemeteries became known as the existing Fraternal Cemetery. The Chelan Cemetery Association is now referred to as the Chelan County Cemetery District #4, which oversees both the Fraternal Cemetery and the Riverview Cemetery, both located in Chelan.

Chelan Fraternal Cemetery in Chelan County was founded in 1896. In 1912 the cemetery was handed to the City of Chelan.

The Chelan Fraternal Cemetery’s management was under the City of Chelan until 1933 when Chelan Fraternal Cemetery Association took over after its formation. The association took over the administration until 2006 when the cemetery land was deeded again back to the City of Chelan.

The Chelan Fraternal Cemetery has incorporated several graves from the local cemeteries. One of the notable relocations of graves is one done by Chelan Catholic Cemetery in 1992. After relocation, they erected a memorial with a list of names of the deceased whose graves were moved.

Chelan Fraternal Cemetery in Chelan ranks number 1st out of the two cemeteries in Chelan City in terms of popularity. Further, it ranks 7th out of 23 cemeteries in Chelan County, 44th out of the 216 cemeteries in Washington State, and 2777 in the United States.
