Civil War Veterans Buried In Washington State - Old Knights of Pythias Cemetery

Old Knights of Pythias Cemetery

Memorial Rd.
Roslyn, Kittitas County, Washington 98941

The Order of Knights of Pythias (KP) was founded in 1864, and based its rituals on the story of Damon and Pythias, a Greek tale of trust and loyalty in friendship. Welcome Lodge # 30 of the Knights of Pythias was chartered in Roslyn on November 15, 1887. This cemetery contains several graves of miners killed in the May 10, 1892, mine explosion. It was noticed at least 13 additional burial plots that either didn’t have information or were not legible. New Knights of Pythias Cemetery in Roslyn was established in the 1930's.

Notes from transcriber Maggie Rail, October 2001:

The Old Knights of Pythias Cemetery can be reached by driving west on Pennsylvania Ave to Memorial Rd where you take a left. Continue on the black top road to the area just before the dirt road heads up the hill. It will be on the right across the road from the New Knights of Pythias Cemetery. Lat: 47° 13' 11"N, Lon: 121° 00' 09"W T20N R15E Sec 17. See map.

I acquired the transcription information I have presented here from my reading of the headstones, which was done when I visited the cemetery. I was unable to find any other records or Sexton files. It seems this lodge no longer exists here along with many others who started these cemeteries.

I surveyed this cemetery on Aug 19, 2001, using pencil and pad, plus my digital camera. An asterisk * has been placed following names which have added information, in parenthesis, received from relatives. Transcribed by Maggie Rail, Sep 21, 2001, last edited Jul 06, 2008.
