History
The cemetery was established around 1875, when William G. Kershaw and his wife, Nancy, donated 2 acres so he could bury his mother, Mary Kershaw, being the first interred. Charles Actor and his wife, Sarah, contributed additional acres to create a permanent burial site. The initial trustees of the cemetery were W.T. Barnes, J.M. Lamb, J.M. Cornwell, and W.G. Kershaw. Unfortunately, two early fires swept through the cemetery, destroying most of the old wooden markers. The original plot map, which was kept in a potting shed, was also lost in the fire. Garland Wilson, an area historian, provided this information.
On 1 July 2000, Rella and Jim Gleaton, and Sheryl, Edward, and Cameron Wilkinson undertook a significant task. They surveyed and meticulously documented the cemetery, preserving its history for future generations.
