History

Cedarhome Cemetery, a reflection of the community’s history, was established in 1882. The City of Stanwood managed the cemetery until 1936, when the Cedarhome Cemetery Association was formed. This marked a significant milestone in the cemetery’s history, as residents took over its administration. The association maintained this responsibility until 2005, when ownership was returned to the City of Stanwood.

In its efforts to preserve local history, Cedarhome Cemetery has incorporated several graves from other local cemeteries. An important example of this occurred in 1997 when graves from the Stanwood Catholic Cemetery were relocated to Cedarhome Cemetery. Following this transfer, a memorial listing the names of the deceased was erected, honoring the memory of those who once rested there.

Today, Cedarhome Cemetery is managed by Gilbertson Funeral Home in Stanwood, a team committed to preserving the cemetery’s legacy. It is the most popular cemetery in Stanwood, ranking first among the city’s two cemeteries. Additionally, it ranks eighth out of 23 cemeteries in Snohomish County, 41st out of 237 in Washington State, and 2,648th in the United States.
