Ivy Green Cemetery is a division of the Bremerton Parks and Recreation Department. It is owned and operated by the City of Bremerton Parks and Recreation Department. It is 15 acres and open to the public every day from 8 a.m. until dusk.
Ivy Green Cemetery has a large military section with all services represented. The local veteran organizations actively volunteer with events that honor Bremerton's military heritage. Ivy Green Cemetery is the site of the "Tomb of the Unknown Soldier," honoring fallen military men and women. John H. Nibbe, a Civil War hero, is also buried here. The Navy gun range on the way to Seabeck is named after a Marine, Wesley Harris, who is also buried in Ivy Green Cemetery.
Many of Bremerton's civilian pioneer families, such as the Dietz, Warren, Gorst, and Harrison families, are also buried here.
Ivy Green Cemetery in Kitsap County was founded in 1905 and handed to the City of Bremerton in 1910.
The City of Bremerton managed the Ivy Green Cemetery until 1940, when the Ivy Green Cemetery Association took over after its formation. The association continued to administer the cemetery until 2011, when it was deeded back to the City of Bremerton.
The Ivy Green Cemetery has incorporated several graves from the local cemeteries. One notable relocation was done by Bremerton Catholic Cemetery in 1994. After the relocation, a memorial with a list of the names of the deceased whose graves were moved was erected.
Ivy Green Cemetery in Bremerton ranks number 1st out of the two cemeteries in Bremerton City in terms of popularity. Further, it ranks 7th out of 17 cemeteries in Kitsap County, 31st out of the 229 cemeteries in Washington State, and 2708th in the United States.
