History
The City of Chewelah purchased this cemetery from Mary Starry for $1.00 on 31 July 1925. Records before this date may not exist, at least according to the city. The establishment of the Chewelah Pioneer Cemetery Association in January 1997 marked a significant milestone. This group, which the community can be proud of, is responsible for maintaining the cemetery and has accomplished a remarkable amount of work to improve it under the city’s guidance. The name “Chewelah Pioneer Cemetery” was formally adopted on 2 September 1998.
