History
Crown Hill Cemetery, a privately owned, non-denominational cemetery located in the north end of Seattle, Washington, has been a beacon of community service since its founding in 1903. For over a century, it has proudly served the community, providing a final resting place for its residents.
In 1911, the City of Seattle took over the management of Crown Hill Cemetery. It continued to oversee it until 1938 when the Seattle Crown Hill Cemetery Association was formed and assumed responsibility for its administration. This association managed the cemetery until 2011 when the land was returned to the City of Seattle.
Throughout its history, Crown Hill Cemetery has incorporated several graves from local cemeteries. One notable relocation occurred in 1993 when the Seattle Catholic Cemetery graves were moved here. Following this relocation, a memorial listing the names of the deceased whose graves were transferred was erected.
Crown Hill Cemetery is the most popular cemetery in Seattle, ranking first among the two cemeteries in the city. It ranks eighth out of the 18 cemeteries in King County, 42nd among the 227 cemeteries in Washington State, and 2,688th in the United States.
