This charming rustic cemetery is a resting place for individuals from the 18th century. Beautifully landscaped, it is divided into four sections, including an Urn and scatter Garden, both of which were designed to harmonize with the surrounding landscape.
The cemetery was started in the late 1800s by the local community and later placed under the purview of the Methodist Church until a Cemetery Association was formed in 1948. The Association could not properly maintain the cemetery, and it fell into a state of neglect. Since 1974, the cemetery has been part of Whatcom County Cemetery District #10, and its beauty has been restored. The First death was in 1895.
The cemetery office is located at the southwest corner of the property.

Lynden Greenwood Cemetery, in Whatcom County, was founded in 1900 and handed to the City of Lynden in 1920.

The Lynden Greenwood Cemetery’s management was under the City of Lynden until 1931, when the Lynden Greenwood Cemetery Association took over after its formation. The association took over the administration until 2011, when the cemetery land was deeded again to the City of Lynden.

The Lynden Greenwood Cemetery has incorporated several graves from the local cemeteries. One notable relocation was done by Lynden Catholic Cemetery in 1994. After the relocation, a memorial with a list of the names of the deceased whose graves were moved was erected.

Lynden Greenwood Cemetery in Lynden ranks number 1st out of the two cemeteries in Lynden City in terms of popularity. Further, it ranks 7th out of 19 cemeteries in Whatcom County, 44th out of the 214 cemeteries in Washington State, and 2732 in the United States

GREENWOOD CEMETERY – Volume VI

Greenwood Cemetery is located on the south side of Wiser Lake Road (SW 1/4, Sec 32, T39N, R3E, WM ). From I-5, take the Sumas exit/Exit256 (State Highway 539, Meridian St. and Lynden also are on the highway signage). Proceed north 8.5 miles on Meridian St. (which becomes Guide Meridian after about a mile) to East Wiser Lake Road. Turn right (east) on East Wiser Lake Road and continue 1.4 miles to the cemetery entrance. East Wiser Lake Road has several curves so care is required to continue on the correct road. Greenwood Cemetery was started as a community project and later the Methodist Church assumed responsibility until a Cemetery Association was formed. Over the years the Association was unable to properly maintain the upkeep and the cemetery grew into a state of neglect. Today the cemetery is a part of Whatcom County Cemetery District No. 10. The first death recorded was in 1895.
