PERSONAL/FAMILY HISTORY:
Charles Adams was born 7/24/1843.
In the 1880 census of Hennepin County, MN, Charles, age 36 was listed along with his wife Bessie, 26 and their daughters Eva 5, and Ida 2. He was a farmer.
In the 1900 census of Otter Tail County, MN, Charles was listed with his wife Bessie, born about 1853 and was employed as a cooper. They had been married for 27 years, and five of the six children born to her survived and were listed as follows: Eva M., born about 1875, teacher; Ida A. born about 1877, teacher; William F., born about 1880; Maud S., born about March, 1885; and Alfred C., born about December, 1889. All of the children were listed as having been born in Minnesota.
The 1910 census of Whatcom County, WA listed Charles, aged 66, in Bellingham, and his occupation was shown as stickman in a lumber mill. His wife was listed as Clara, age 56, and they had been married for 37 years. Their son Alfred, 29, was living with them. Charles died 6/9/1925.
War Veteran Dies
Charles Adams, Civil War veteran with twenty years of residence in Bellingham, and former member of J.B. Steedman Post G.A.R. passed away at the home of his daughter Mrs. Ida Field Fergus Falls Minnesota. Tuesday morning according to word received here. Death claimed the veteran in his 81st year, after an illness of about a week. Frank Adams, a son of this city, was at his father’s bedside when he died. Mr. Adams, who was predeceased by Mrs. Adams here about two years ago, had since made his home with Mrs. Field at Fergus Falls. Three daughters, Mrs. Field, Mrs. LeRoy Swartwood of Waldron Island, and Mrs. Mathew Mark, of this city, survive with two songs, Frank and Alfred, both of this city, and eleven grandchildren. The body will arrive in Bellingham Saturday, accompanied by Frank Adams. Funeral services will be conducted from the Homer Mark chapel on Elk Street, the hour to be announced later. Interment will be made in the family plot in Bay View cemetery (alongside of Mrs. Adams).
