Born in Maine. A resident of Calais, Washington County, Maine when he enlisted in the 22nd Maine Infantry on 10 Sep 1862 for nine months. Mustered in as a Private in Company F on 10 Oct 1862 at Bangor, Penobscot County, Maine. Mustered out and honorably discharged on 14 Aug 1863 at Bangor, Maine. On 1 Mar 1865 mustered in and commissioned as 2nd Lieutenant of Company G, Maine Coast Guard Infantry at Augusta, Kennebec County, Maine. Promoted to 1st Lieutenant 22 Mar 1865. Mustered out and honorably discharged on 6 Jul 1865 at Augusta, Maine. He was a member of Custer Post No. 6 of Tacoma, Pierce County, Washington. He served the Post as Adjutant in 1890 and Commander in 1907. He served as Commander of the Department of Washington and Alaska 1908-09. Died in Tacoma, Washington.
