He lived in Berlin WI when he enlisted on 4/30/1861 as a 2nd Lieutenant.
On 4/30/1861 he was commissioned into "G" Co. WI 5th Infantry. He was discharged on 12/23/1862.
On 3/18/1864 he was commissioned into Veteran Reserve Corps.

He applied for a pension on 6/28/1880 and his Widow (Jane McL Ayres) applied for a pension on 5/9/1903 from the state of WA.
