Ezekiel was born in Mansfield, Ohio, in 1832, the fourth child of William Johnston Boggs and Rachel Boggs.
Sometime after 1850, he moved to San Francisco where he enlisted in the US Army during the Civil War on 23 September 1861 as a Sergeant and was mustered into into Company G, California 2nd Cavalry Regiment. He fought several in battles: 9 Apr 1862 at Owens River, CA; 19 Dec 1862 at Santa Fe, NM; 29 Jan 1863 at Bear River, Utah Terr.; 29 Jan 1863 at Bear River, UT; 3 Mar 1863 at Camp Independence, CA; 15 Apr 1863 at Spanish Fork, Utah Terr.; and 15 Jul 1863 at Temecula, CA. He was mustered out on 27 September 1864 at San Francisco, CA.
He married Melissa Jennie Thornton in Mountain View, CA, on 29 May 1869. They lived in Santa Clara County, CA, until 1883 when they moved to Tacoma, WA. There Ezekiel received a patent on 158.25 acres near Purdy, WA.
With his health failing, Ezekiel moved to the Washington Soldiers Home in Orting, WA. He died there in 1898.
He was a member of Custer Post No. 6 of Tacoma, Pierce County, Washington.
