Union Civil War veteran, but of which unit is unknown; superintendent of schools in Virginia for 16 years, pension agent in Washington DC, resident of Washington from early statehood. He was postmaster at Traceyton and state horticultural commissioner for Governor Rogers. His nursery at Manette contained a reported 20,000 rose bushes at his demise. Married, no children, one adopted ward. His final arrangements were made by Rosenberg Undertaking (later assumed by Home Undertaking) of Seattle.
