Memorial ID
Civil War veteran. He served first in the 118th Indiana Infantry, Company G, from July 1863 to March 1864. Following a break in service, he re-enlisted in Company F, 47th Indiana Infantry; for this unit, he served from January to October 1865. He did not file for his pension until after the effective date of the age law and may have been one of the last Civil War veterans enrolled. In 1914 he spent several months at the Battle Mountain Sanitarium, but most of his final years were spent at the Washington State Soldiers Home in Orting. Following his death, his body was removed to South Tacoma (probably either the Oakwood Hill crematory or the Tacoma Mausoleum crematory); his ashes have not yet been found.
