Civil War veteran. Henry Stitzel was born about 1829-1832 in Pennsylvania (aged 60 in 1889, still aged 60 in 1892). He enlisted in Company G, 156th Ohio Infantry, and served briefly. By profession, he was a shoemaker. In 1891 he was a member of Price Post 50, Grand Army of the Republic, at Centralia, Washington. He married in the 1880s and had one known child with his wife, Leah Ann. He died under mysterious circumstances. His death is recorded in the coroner's ledger for Lewis County, Washington, but there are no particulars surrounding his demise. He received a pension claimed from Washington as of 12 August 1890; his pension file may contain some answers. His widow filed her own claim on 18 April 1899 but abandoned it because of remarriage in September 1900. He is found in two early Washington state census records.
