Born at Richland County, Ohio. A resident of Low Moor, Clinton County, Iowa when he enlisted as musician (fifer) at age 27. Mustered 15 Sep 1862 at Iowa. Transferred to 13th Company, 2nd Battalion, Veteran Reserve Corps 15 May 1864. Discharged at St. Louis, Missouri. He returned to Iowa after the war but by 1880 he relocated to Syracuse, Otoe County, Nebraska where he worked as a painter. By 1889 he was a resident of Tacoma, Pierce County, Washington where he continued working as a painter. He was a member of Custer Post No. 6 of Tacoma, Washington. He settled at Skagit County, Washington by 1891. He married Mary Monroe 5 Jul 1891 at Mount Vernon, Skagit County, Washington. He died at Mount Vernon, Washington.
