Obituary 2:
An Ex-Mayor Buried
F.W. Bashford's Funeral Held Under Masonic Auspices
Yesterday afternoon there was laid to rest one of Tacoma's well-known attorneys and prominent citizens, Franklin W. Bashford. He had been a great sufferer for a number of years of a complication of diseases contracted during his long service in the great war, having been directly engaged in 36 of the hardest fought battles.
During his early residence in Tacoma, which dates from 1880, Mr. Bashford was quite prominent in numerous affairs, having been for several years Councilman from the Third ward and acting mayor during the protracted absence of ex-Mayor Jacob Mann.
Mr. Bashford was truly a self-made man, having been left with three brothers and a sister, orphans at a very tender age. Two of the brothers became lawyers, one an editor, and one, James W. Bashford, president of Wesleyan University at Delaware, O.
Mr. Bashford was a prominent member of the G.A.R. and a member of the Masonic fraternity, under whose auspices the funeral was conducted. He was a devout Christian, and in his firm, unshaken faith and peaceful resignation was very comforting to all who came in contact with him.
