In September 1891 Dr. Chenoweth & T. W. Oyler, through an agreement with Samuel K. Cross of Topeka, KS, began the development of the farming community of Fruitland (renamed Orchard in 1893) in Fort Bend County, TX.
Born in Indiana. A resident of Boone County, Indiana when he enlisted in the 150th Indiana Infantry for one year at Lafayette, Tippecanoe County, Indiana. Mustered in as a Private in Company A on 20 Jan 1865. Mustered out at Stevenson Station. Virginia. A member of Custer Post No. 6 of Tacoma, Pierce County, Washington. Died at Fern Hill, Pierce County, Washington. His military and pension records spell his last name as "Chenoweth".
