Daughter of Andrew Barngrover and Naomi Leeds. Wife of Thomas Franklin Mahan, they had nine children.

-- Obituary, Seattle Post-Intelligencer, Friday, August 5, 1938, page 3, column H

MRS. MAHAN, PIONEER OF STATE, PASSES
Widow of Prominent Builder and Contractor Came to Seattle Forty-Six Years Ago

Death came yesterday to one of Washington's best-known pioneers, Mrs. Nancy A. Mahan, 160-8 42nd Ave. N. She was eighty-seven.

Ill for the past five years, Mrs. Mahan died without knowing that one of her daughters, Mrs. Minnie Brown, had died two years ago this month. Other members of the Mahan family believed the sad news might hasten the pioneer's death, so they told her Mrs. Brown was away on a prolonged visit to California.

BORN IN INDIANA

Born in Kokomo, Ind., Mrs. Mahan came to Washington in 1878 and to Seattle forty-six years ago with the husband, the late Thomas F. Mahan, builder and contractor.

She was active in Stevens Relief Corps of the G. A. R., and a member of the Elderbloom Club. She attended the Fourth Church of Christ, Scientist.

MANY SURVIVORS

Surviving are five of nine children, nine grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren. Her own children still living are Mrs. Myrtle Myler, Mrs. Maude Hillman, Mrs. Grace Kinney, Mrs. Hazel Brown and Fred J. Mahan.

Christian Science services will be held at 7 p.m. tomorrow in the Home Undertaking chapel, with cremation following.
