Born in Sweden. A resident of Chicago, Cook County, Illinois when he enlisted in the 17th Illinois Cavalry for three years. Mustered in as a Private in Company L at St. Charles, Illinois on 24 Feb 1864. Mustered out as a Corporal at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. A member of Phil H. Sheridan Post No. 44 of Tacoma, Pierce County, Washington. Later became a member of Custer Post No. 6 of Tacoma, Pierce County, Washington. Died in Orting, Pierce County, Washington. He is buried in a G.A.R. section of the cemetery. Some records spell his last name as "Chilburg" or "Chelburg".
