Dennis LaGrave was a Union Soldier in Company A 92nd New York Infantry and Company F 193 New York Infantry.
He was the husband of Mary E. LaGrave.

Dennis was one of the 7 sons born to William Sr. and Esther DeFrane LaGrave. The father and all 7 sons served in N.Y. units during the Civil War. The last surviving son Joe wrote an article for a local newspaper, the Augusta Eagle(Wi) Jan. 25 1918 relating the family story. He names all of his brothers along with his father, and the units they served, etc. "Wm. Jr., Eli and Dennis enlisted in Co. A of the 92nd N.Y. Vols. 3 yrs. At the expiration of the 3 years Eli and Dennis re-enlisted, Dennis in Co. F of the 103rd N.Y. Vols." 'The family moved from Massena N.Y. their old home in 1877 settling in Eau Claire Co.'

Retired farmer residing at College Place, pioneer of the valley of 1873, born Massena N.Y. May 29 1844. Wounded in the battle of Cold Harbor and again at the blowing up of the mines after the capture of Petersburg. His eyes also were permanently injured in the service. After 1866 he returned to N.Y. and farmed for a time before moving to WI. for about 4 years. He took a homestead in Columbia co. Wa. and farmed there 20 years, selling out in 1893 and retiring. He did some mining for gold and silver in Okanagan county.
Member of Excelsior Post, G.A.R. of Dayton.
Married in Eau Claire, WI. to Mary E. nee Palmer, a PA. native.
5 children, F. Leslie, Cora E. wife of Edward Miley, Verna F., Verta E. wife of James Granger of Sumpter, Or., and Myrtle.
