Born in Drammen, Norway. He was a resident of St. Paul, Ramsey County, Minnesota when he enlisted in the 1st Minnesota Heavy Artillery. He mustered in as a Private in Company G on 14 Feb 1865. Discharged at Nashville, Davidson County, Tennessee. A member of Custer Post No. 6 of Tacoma, Pierce County, Washington. He died in Tacoma, Washington, and is buried in a G.A.R. section of the cemetery.
