Born at Albany County, New York. A resident of Union, Door County, Wisconsin when he enlisted. Mustered in as a Corporal at Madison, Dane County, Wisconsin. Wounded in action (gunshot wound) at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, 1 Jul 1863. He was wounded in action a second time, 10 May 1864, at Laurel Hill, Virginia. Mustered out 3 Jul 1865 at Louisville, Jefferson County, Kentucky. His obituary reports he headed west after the war, working as a railway conductor and spending time in California, Nevada and Washington. He resided at Pierce County, Washington by 1891 where he was a member of Custer Post No. 6 of Tacoma. He married Pauline Lanterman at Olympia, Thurston County, Washington in 1894. The 1900 U.S. Census lists him as a resident of Contra Costa County, California. He lived at Decatur Island, San Juan County, Washington before settling at Anacortes, Skagit County, Washington about 1907. He was a member of General Emory Post No. 68 at Anacortes. He died at Anacortes, Washington
